How to tell if a sale price is really a deal
Six quick checks that separate genuine discounts from inflated MRPs and sale-day tricks.

“70% off” sounds great until you notice the same product sold for nearly the same price last month. Big percentages are easy to print; real savings take a minute to check. Here is the routine we use before buying anything on sale.
1. Ignore the MRP, compare the selling price
The MRP is the maximum a seller is allowed to charge, not what the product normally sells for. Many items sit well below MRP all year, so a discount calculated from MRP tells you very little. What matters is today’s price compared with what the product usually sells for.
2. Check the same product on other stores
The quickest reality check is to search the exact model on two or three other stores. If every store is at roughly the same price, the “sale” is just the going rate. That’s exactly why we built Adsokane: one search opens the same product on every store we cover.
3. Match the exact variant
Sellers often show the cheapest variant’s price in the headline. Before comparing, confirm you are looking at the same thing:
- Storage and RAM for phones and laptops
- Size and colour for clothes and shoes
- Pack size and quantity for beauty and grocery
- Model year for TVs and appliances
4. Separate the price from the offers
A lot of headline prices assume a specific bank card, an exchange, or a coupon. The effective price is real only if you actually qualify. Work out what you will pay with the cards and coupons you have, not the best case on the banner.
5. Look at the seller, not just the store
On marketplaces like Amazon and Flipkart, the same listing can have several sellers. The cheapest one may have a weaker return policy or ship from far away. Check the seller name, rating and return window before you pay.
6. Don’t buy because a timer is running
Countdown timers and “only 2 left” labels exist to rush you. Big sales come round several times a year, so if you miss one, another usually follows within a few months.
Tip:If you are not in a hurry, add the product to your Adsokane wishlist and check it again before the next big sale.
